ShareGate vs. BitTitan MigrationWiz: What IT pros need to know

These tools are built for different problems and priced differently. Here's how to tell which one fits your project.

Feature information on this page is based on publicly available ShareGate and BitTitan documentation as of July 2026. Verify with each vendor before making a purchasing decision.

The Verdict

Which should you choose?

ShareGate Migrate has subscription tiers that cover unlimited users and every workload. BitTitan sells per-user, per-workload licenses across six SKUs based on what workloads you’re migrating. For a full tenant-to-tenant migration, ShareGate Migrate Pro and BitTitan's Tenant Migration Bundle (TMB) are the closest apples-to-apples comparison.

Choose ShareGate Migrate Pro if

Your project is a full M365 migration

  • You need SharePoint site structure, metadata, and permissions to land intact.
  • Your scope includes Entra ID, Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and/or Google Workspace.
  • You want one flat price before the project starts, with no per-user math.
  • Same-tenant restructuring is part of the scope (reorg, consolidation, cleanup).
  • You're running multiple migration projects per year.
  • You want the option to re-encrypt sensitivity-labeled content under destination keys so it survives source-tenant decommission.
  • You'd rather buy your migration tool online without a sales call.
  • You want ongoing M365 governance after the migration from the same vendor.
Choose
BitTitan MigrationWiz
if

You need a 100% SaaS tool

  • You need a cloud-based tool with no local install required.
  • Your organization prefers peruser, per-workload licensing overa flat annual fee.
  • Your scope stays within Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams migration without needing Google Workspace or identity migration in the same license.
  • You don’t need to do any same tenant restructuring.
  • You have a single, well-scoped project that will complete within 12 months.

Commercial model and licensing

Microsoft 365 environments change with every reorg, merger, and acquisition. ShareGate treats migration as a repeatable capability, and BitTitan sells per-user, per-workload licenses that make sense for one-off project work. Two different bets about how buying software should work.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
License model Flat annual fee. $9,995 for Pro. Multi-year plans available through sales. Per migrated user. $57 per user. Licenses valid 12 months from purchase. Single-year only.
How you procure Sign up online, start a trial, purchase your subscription. You can contact sales for a demo or quote at any point. Sign up online, request a trial, contact sales to purchase the subscription.
Data cost model No data caps. No per-GB metering. Version history doesn't count against any volume. Each TMB license includes either 1 team migration OR 1 SharePoint document library, capped at 100 GB. Additional Teams or SharePoint workload beyond that allocation requires additional licenses. No cap on mailbox and OneDrive data.
Licensing flexibility when scope grows or migration runs long No additional cost. Add users, data, or migration waves mid-project without re-scoping the contract or requesting new licenses. Multi-year plans available through sales for known long-running programs. Each new user added to scope consumes a new $57 license. Users still needing migration after 12 months require repurchased licenses.
How it runs Lightweight desktop install on the migration team's machine. Migration data moves tenant-to-tenant directly. It never transits or is staged in ShareGate infrastructure. Customer controls where data flows. SaaS. No install. Migration runs through BitTitan's Azure infrastructure with regional processing options available.
Support Migration specialists included on all plans. ~3hr response, 96% CSAT, no paid tiers. Help that doesn't depend on your severity level. Standard support included with licenses. Complex or enterprise migrations offered onboarding and advanced support services as separate paid engagements.
Trial access 15-day self-serve trial. All Pro features. No caps. No credit card. Sales-led trial licenses. Fill out a form, schedule a call with a BitTitan representative, and receive scoped trial licenses if approved. Duration and scope determined case-by-case. Separate "Trial" migration pass in-product migrates up to 10 items per folder or 5 MB per mailbox.

What does a T2T migration project actually cost?

Scenario: You need to migrate 500 users, 830 mailboxes (user, shared, resource, archive), 500 OneDrive drives, 150 SharePoint document libraries, and 150 teams from one M365 tenant to another.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan Migration Wiz
Entra ID migration Included in flat annual fee. Active Directory license at $6.25/user. 500 × $6.25 = $3,125
Exchange Online + OneDrive migration Included in flat annual fee. $57/mailbox object including shared, resource, and archive mailboxes. 830 × $57 = $47,310
SharePoint migration Included in flat annual fee. Each TMB license includes one Flex Collaboration License (FCL), redeemable for either a Teams migration OR a SharePoint document library migration (100 GB cap on either). 150 libraries would consume 150 FCL allocations, included with the 830 mailbox objects being migrated.
Teams migration Included in flat annual fee. Each TMB license includes one FCL, redeemable for either a Teams migration OR a SharePoint document library migration (100 GB cap on either). 150 teams would consume 150 FCL allocations, included with the 830 mailbox objects being migrated.
Total estimated cost $9,995 — All workloads. Unlimited users. Unlimited data. $50,435 — TMB $47,310 + AD license $3,125
How it runs

Deployment, performance, and operations

ShareGate runs as a lightweight desktop install where BitTitan runs as a full SaaS platform. Both approaches work; the trade-offs show up in setup, throttling behavior, and how each tool handles the operational edges of a real-world migration.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
Supported source workloads
  • Entra ID
  • Exchange Online
  • SharePoint
  • Teams
  • OneDrive
  • Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels
  • Google Workspace
Purpose-built for cloud native M&A, restructuring, and tenant consolidation.
  • Exchange Online
  • OneDrive
  • SharePoint
  • Teams
With the purchase of separate SKUs, BitTitan MigrationWiz also migrates legacy on-prem email, Google Workspace, Active Directory, Entra ID, and workstation migration.
Deployment model and data residency Lightweight desktop install on the migration team's machine. Migration data moves tenant-to-tenant directly. It never transits or is staged in ShareGate infrastructure. Customer controls where data flows. SaaS. No install. Migration data flows through BitTitan's Azure-hosted migration farm. Customer can select a preferred processing region during project setup.
Setup and time-to-value Install the desktop app, connect source and destination tenants with one Azure consent each, start migrating. Create a MigrationWiz account, configure source and destination endpoints, grant consent to the required Microsoft 365 permission scopes, start migrating. For Exchange migrations, EWS must be enabled on source and destination, and a migration service account must be created without MFA/2FA or Conditional Access restrictions on the account itself.
Throttling management and API optimization Built-in awareness of Microsoft Graph and SharePoint throttling limits. Recommended batching guidance documented per workload. Concurrent migrations across multiple machines reduce the risk of tenant-wide throttling that would slow Outlook and Teams for everyone else during business hours. Impersonation (rather than delegation) is recommended by BitTitan to reduce throttling on the admin account. Customers can also request PowerShell throttling policy adjustments on their Exchange tenants to remove account-level throttling ceilings.
Performance at scale Run migrations across up to 5 machines (or 25+ with the Enterprise plan) simultaneously to saturate available bandwidth and meet tight cutover windows. The customer decides how much parallelism to use. Documented at petabyte scale. Migrations run on BitTitan's global geo-distributed Azure migration farm. Supports project sizes from 5 to 50,000 users. Customers don't deploy or control the underlying compute.
Pre-migration conflict detection Identity conflicts, archive presence, mailbox size, and mapping issues surfaced before execution starts. Source analysis and permissions matrix report available before migration runs. Review and resolve everything before anything moves. No dedicated pre-migration conflict detection report. Autodiscovery of users and items at project setup. Verify Credentials mode validates source and destination credentials before any data moves, without consuming licenses.
Error handling and granular logging Item-level error logs with file path and error type. Tasks panel centralizes results across all workloads in one view. Exportable via the UI or PowerShell. Resume changed items via incremental passes. Item-level error logs identifying the failed object. Retry Errors mode resubmits failed items free of charge after the initial migration completes. Errors are surfaced in the project dashboard, with individual error messages viewable per line item.
Validation and reconciliation Migration reports show what succeeded, what failed, and why, per task and centralized in the Tasks panel. Permissions matrix report can be run before, during, and after migration to verify access didn't shift in transit. Migration reports available per project. Status-based reporting surfaces failed and completed items. No dedicated post-migration permissions verification report.
Coexistence during migration Not in scope. ShareGate is built for a defined migration sequence rather than long coexistence windows. Not in scope. BitTitan sells PowerSyncPro Directory Sync ($8/user) and MigrationWiz Hybrid Exchange Management as separate licenses for extended coexistence, cross-tenant free/busy, and directory synchronization.
Migration Outcomes

Migration outcomes and post-migration value

ShareGate Migrate and BitTitan MigrationWiz both preserve timestamps, authors, and permissions. The fidelity differences show up at the edges, especially around encrypted content, what each tool lets you do within the same tenant, and what happens after the migration is done.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz Tenant Migration Bundle
Metadata and permissions fidelity The following are preserved:
  • Created and modified timestamps
  • Original authors
  • Site, list, library, item, and document-level permissions
  • Content types
  • Managed metadata
  • Custom site columns
  • Unique permissions (broken inheritance, item-level)
Permissions Matrix Report available before, during, and after migration to verify access didn't shift in transit.
The following are preserved:
  • Created and modified timestamps
  • Original authors
  • Folder and document-level permissions
Migration reports available per project. Individual item errors surfaced in the project dashboard.
Sensitivity labels and encrypted content Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels can be mapped to destination labels before migration. When a valid mapping exists, files are re-encrypted under the destination tenant's keys, which means migrated content stays accessible if the source tenant is decommissioned. If mapping is missing or invalid, the source label is kept and the content requires source-tenant credentials to read. Encrypted emails don't migrate, they have to be decrypted at the source before migration. Content protected by Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels migrates as-is, but the migrated files are not viewable at the destination because the source tenant's protection policies aren't available in the destination tenant.
Same-tenant restructuring Move or reorganize SharePoint content, Teams content, and mailboxes within the same tenant as part of a reorg, consolidation, or cleanup. Included in the flat annual license. Not supported.
Strategic post-migration governance value ShareGate Protect, a separate per-user subscription, is a purpose-built governance tool. It offers tenant-wide permissions matrix, guest and sharing-link cleanup, workspace lifecycle reporting, license cost analytics, and Copilot readiness in one product. Available from the same vendor and can run before, during, and after migration. Migration-only vendor.

Entra ID migration

Both tools migrate Entra ID identities for tenant-to-tenant projects. ShareGate integrates identity as the first step of the migration sequence, in the same tool, at no extra cost. BitTitan supports broader AD scenarios including on-prem, but requires a separate license add-on.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
Supported identity sources
  • Entra ID.
Purpose-built for cloud-to-cloud M&A, restructuring, and tenant consolidation.
Not supported. You need a separate MigrationWiz Active Directory license (SMB Edition at $6.25/user for ≤1,000 users, or PowerSyncPro Dir Sync at $8/user for larger deployments) to migrate users.
Objects migrated
  • Users
  • Security groups
  • Microsoft 365 groups
  • Group memberships.
License assignment included as part of the migration flow.

None with TMB. With the separate AD license, you can migrate:

  • Users
  • Groups
  • Contacts
  • Computer and printer objects supported for on-prem migrations.

Broader object coverage for on-prem scenarios.

Pre-migration conflict detection Conflicts between source and destination identities are surfaced before execution starts. Review and resolve mapping issues before anything moves. Automatic matching based on UPN and attributes. Manual override of individual user mappings not supported in cloud-to-cloud scenarios. Simulate Change mode not supported when Entra ID is the destination.
Workflow integration Built into the same ShareGate Migrate tool. Identity → Mailbox → Workloads in one sequence. No separate license or tool required. Sold as a separate BitTitan license outside the Tenant Migration Bundle. Requires purchasing and configuring the AD license independently, then coordinating identity migration with the separate mailbox/workload migration project.

Exchange Online mailbox migration

Both ShareGate Migrate Pro and BitTitan MigrationWiz Tenant Migration Bundle handle Exchange Online tenant-to-tenant. The differences are in content fidelity, how each tool handles encrypted mail, and whether post-migration validation surfaces individual failed items or only project-level status.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
Supported mailbox sources
  • Exchange Online.
Purpose-built for cloud-to-cloud M&A, restructuring, and tenant consolidation between Microsoft 365 tenants.

Post-migration validation Item-level validation reports show what succeeded, what failed, and why, per mailbox. Recurring meeting series can be verified individually. Delta migrations capture changes between waves. Status-level reporting per project. Item-level errors are surfaced in the error log for retry, but no dedicated post-migration validation report showing per-item success across recurring meetings, calendar items, and other mailbox content.

SharePoint migration depth

SharePoint is the most structurally complex M365 workload. ShareGate migrates at the site level. BitTitan's Tenant Migration Bundle migrates at the document library level.

Multi-line text migrates as single-line text at the destination.
Permissions fidelity Site, list, library, item, SharePoint group, and document-level permissions preserved, including broken inheritance and custom permission levels. Permissions matrix report available before, during, and after migration to verify access. Document-level and folder-level permissions preserved. Site-level and tenant-level permissions are not migrated. Group-based permissions migrate only if the identically-named group is pre-created at the destination before migration.
Workflows Built-in SharePoint workflows and SharePoint Designer workflows (2013+) migrate and function at the destination. Nintex Workflows via a separate add-on. Not supported.

OneDrive migration depth

Both ShareGate and BitTitan migrate OneDrive migration basics—files, folders, version history. The differences show up in sharing behavior and post-cutover user experience.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
What gets migrated
  • Files and folders
  • Version history
  • Metadata (created and modified timestamps, original authors, editors)
  • Permissions on files and folders
  • Sensitivity labels
  • Files and folders
  • Version history
  • Metadata (created and modified timestamps, original authors, editors)
  • Permissions on files and folders shared with specific people using Direct Access
Sharing links Sharing links migrate as sharing links. Internal sharing relationships preserved where source-to-destination user mapping exists. Only Direct Access sharing (shared with specific named people) migrates, and it's converted to direct permissions at the destination rather than preserved as sharing links. Anonymous "anyone with the link" and organization-wide sharing links don't migrate at all.
Known folder move (KFM) KFM-redirected content (Desktop, Documents, and Pictures) migrates as part of the standard OneDrive copy. KFM as a Windows policy is configured via GPO or Intune after migration, not by ShareGate. KFM-redirected content (Desktop, Documents, and Pictures) migrates as part of the standard OneDrive copy. KFM as a Windows policy is configured via GPO or Intune after migration, not by BitTitan.
Post-migration user experience Users sign in to their OneDrive at the destination with files, folders, and version history intact. Sync client picks up the new tenant on first sign-in. DeploymentPro (included with the Tenant Migration Bundle) reconfigures users' Outlook profiles and OneDrive sync client on their devices automatically after migration completes. Users sign in with new tenant credentials without manual profile setup.

Teams migration depth

Teams is deceptively complex, and Microsoft's APIs make this messy for every vendor. The differences come down to channel types supported, how each tool handles chat history, and the licensing scope of the Teams migration itself.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
What gets migrated
  • Teams (standard template only)
  • Standard and private channels
  • Channel files (with version history and metadata)
  • Channel conversations (posts and replies)
  • Membership (owners, members, guests)
  • Permissions
  • Tabs and apps
  • Planner plans
  • M365 Group association
  • OneNote
  • Teams
  • Standard, private, and shared channels

  • Membership (owners, members, guests)
  • Permissions
  • Tabs (limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF linked to same-channel files)
  • Planner buckets, tasks, and comments
  • M365 Group association
Conversation history 50 most recent conversations copied to the Posts tab (up to 500 via PowerShell). Full history archived as an HTML page in a Message history tab. A disclaimer at the top of each conversation thread identifies the migration account and source tenant. Conversations migrate as posts with an "Originally posted by..." attribution line added by the migration service account. Individual messages over 4 MB don't migrate.
Private chat (1:1 and group) Not currently available. ShareGate's beta chat migration is disabled. Now available in preview. Only the last 30 days of chat activity are migrated. Older chat threads migrate as HTML files stored in the destination service account's OneDrive and shared with each user, with a 250 MB cap per file. 1:1 chats become group chats at the destination. Deleted messages, tags, and @mentions are not migrated.
Data limits Unlimited data. 100 GB cap per team migration. Teams over 100 GB require additional Teams Collaboration licenses.

Google Workspace to M365 migration path

Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 is one of the most common migration scenarios, driven by acquisitions, restructures, and platform standardization.

ShareGate Migrate Pro BitTitan MigrationWiz TMB
