ShareGate product update: February 2022

Changelog Featured

Looking for the latest ShareGate updates? We’ve got you covered with our February 2022 update.

Welcome to another product ChangeLog, our monthly series where the ShareGate Product Marketing team recaps recent updates and changes to help you make the most out of your ShareGate software.

What’s new

February has been a short but exciting month here at ShareGate! We’ve introduced new governance alerts that notify you of specific team-related events via our Teams chatbot. And a brand new ShareGate experience bringing more of the ShareGate value straight to your fingertips.

Get automatic alerts for specific team-related events taking place in your tenant

Knowledge is power. The more you know about what goes on in your tenant, the better equipped you are to report on the usage of the Microsoft tools you’ve deployed and adjust governance policies to keep things organized and secure.

Following up on our monthly governance digest, which focuses on issues taking place in your teams, we’ve introduced Governance alerts. This new addition comes in 4, and what we mean by that is that there are four specific events for which you can be automatically informed about, on a weekly basis, right within Teams.

Here’s what we can inform you via our chatbot:

  1. Deleted teams: the number of teams that were deleted within the elapsed period
  2. Newly created teams: the number of teams that were created within the elapsed period
  3. Inactive teams: the number of inactive teams the moment the alert is sent
  4. Orphaned teams: the number of orphaned teams the moment the alert is sent
Sg Governance Alerts
Customize all four governance alerts based on your business needs.

You can decide which alerts you want to turn on or off. And you can customize the frequency of each of the alerts, as you might want to be informed daily about orphaned teams in order to assign a new owner as soon as possible. On the other hand, you might only need to know the number of deleted teams on a bi-weekly basis. The choice is yours to make!

For more information about the latest governance alerts, check out our support documentation.

The new ShareGate experience

As you probably heard (or maybe even experienced it yourself already!), we’ve unified our former products ShareGate Desktop and ShareGate Apricot into a single platform–ShareGate.

That’s why we’ve created ShareGate Home, a new launchpad that’ll allow us to ship amazing new features, such as our upcoming provisioning solution, even quicker! As your go-to Microsoft 365 management solution for SharePoint and Teams, you can easily find our features and capabilities to help with your big migration project as well as your day-to-day SharePoint and Teams operations.

Sharegate Home
ShareGate Home is the ShareGate’s new launchpad to even more features and capabilities.

From it, you can also easily manage your ShareGate subscription, license activations, and user account. You can also choose to work in dark mode (because why not!).

This is the start of an important and exciting new chapter at ShareGate, but don’t take my word for it! Hear it directly from Benjamin Niaulin, ShareGate’s Director of Product and Microsoft MVP, by watching our latest webinar dedicated to the new ShareGate experience.

You can also read our launch blog for more information.

Other changes and improvements

Here are some other notable improvements and bug fixes for February. Check out the release notes in our ShareGate support documentation for the full list:

  • Migration tool [Release 16.0]:
    • The link for a team at the top of the quick actions panel will open the team instead of your central admin. For a Microsoft 365 group, it will now bring you to your group details in the admin center.
    • You can add ID and Associated site address columns to the Teams summary report. Check out release notes for more.
    • [Patch 15.3.5]: We’ve fixed error related issues, including the one that affected an item’s ability to load during migration.

Coming soon

We’re always working hard on new features and improvements based on our users’ needs and requests. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up next on the product roadmap:

Migrate Microsoft Planner plans between teams and groups

As we know, Microsoft Planner has seen an incredible uptake and is becoming an important part of your migration projects. That’s why we’re happy to announce that you’ll soon be able to migrate Planner plans between teams and groups, whether they’re within the same tenant or not. That way, you’ll be able to migrate Planner plans separately from a Teams migration. This new feature, found within our migration tool, will allow you to customize your migration to include the Planner plans you need, and move them exactly where you need them.

This is something you’ve been asking for, and our Product and Engineering teams are making it happen! Stay tuned for more.
