Welcome to ShareGate snapshot!

ShareGate snapshot is a new series that covers what's new and improved in our products. We’ll walk you through the updates to both ShareGate Protect and Migrate. Not just what shipped, but why it matters and how to make the most of the changes for your environment.

So, welcome to your first monthly briefing!

This month in ShareGate: Microsoft 365 governance repeatability and Exchange migrations get a boost

The updates to both Protect and Migrate share a common theme: closing gaps. On the Protect side, three updates that make governance work easier to sustain and act on.

On the Migrate side, two Exchange Online blockers that complicated regulated and complex migrations are now gone.

Let’s dive in.

ShareGate Protect updates

Protect's February updates are about making good governance habits stick. You’ve now got better reporting, a new way to act on inactive workspaces, and smoother onboarding.

Save custom reports: Make recurring reviews faster and more consistent

You can now save any custom report configuration—your chosen filters, columns, and scope—and return to it whenever you need it. Build from scratch, start from a template, or customize an existing view from Overview or Tenant info. Once it's saved, it's yours to reuse, edit, duplicate, or delete as your needs change.

It's a small change with a real impact because governance work is recurring by nature. You check the same things, on the same cadence, for the same reasons. Now, instead of rebuilding the same views before every review cycle, you show up and the work is already set up. This reinforces consistency across review cycles, helping teams maintain a repeatable governance process instead of rebuilding it from scratch each time.

A few things worth knowing: saved reports are personal to you, not shared across your team. And while reports are reusable, they aren't automated or scheduled.

Workspace-level archiving: Take action on inactive workspaces inside Protect

You can now archive inactive workspaces directly from Protect reports, using Microsoft's native archive mechanism, without leaving your governance workflow to do it. Lifecycle state—Active, Archived, Being Archived, Being Restored—is visible directly in your reports, so you always know where things stand.

Our archiving leverages Microsoft 365’s built-in behavior. It doesn’t replace retention policies or compliance controls. Instead, it enables structured lifecycle action within your existing governance process.

And archived workspaces are filtered out of your standard active views by default, so your reports stay focused on what actually needs attention.

Inactive workspaces inflate storage, muddy search results, create unnecessary surface area for Copilot to surface, and add noise to every governance review. Now with Protect, you can get insights and take action on ROT all in one place. Easy breezy.

First time experience improvements: Smooth start for new users

We updated the Protect onboarding experience to meet users where they are. New trial users get a lightweight welcome that gets them connected to their tenant quickly, without front-loading information that isn't relevant yet.

New paid users get a short, guided tour that explains workspaces and activations at the moment those things actually matter.

And existing customers transitioning from legacy license models get clear, in-context messaging that explains what changed and why.

Nothing about how licensing or activations work has changed. This reduces friction during onboarding, helping teams reach their first actionable insight faster.

This update was purely about making sure understanding Protect is as clear as using it.

ShareGate Migrate updates

ShareGate’s Exchange Online migrations got meaningfully more complete this month. Two updates that remove blockers for the migrations where the stakes are highest: regulated industries, enterprise environments, and tenants where Microsoft 365 groups are deeply embedded in how people work.

Mailbox Litigation Hold migration: No compliance gaps at cutover

You can now migrate Litigation Hold configuration as part of your mailbox migration. This means enforcement continues in the target tenant without manual reconfiguration at cutover.

For large enterprises, public sector organizations, and partners delivering compliance-sensitive migrations, this is especially important. That cuts out the manual reconfiguration at cutover and shrinks the window where enforcement could lapse — without changing who owns compliance validation on the other side.

You can ensure the hold is in place right at the moment your mailboxes are migrated, so enforcement doesn't lapse.

Microsoft 365 Group mailbox migration: Exchange migrations just got more complete

If your organization uses Teams, groups are almost certainly woven into how people work.

ShareGate Migrate now supports migration of Microsoft 365 Group mailbox email content as part of your tenant-to-tenant Exchange migration. No separate tools, no manual remediation, no incomplete handoff.

All you have to do is ensure the destination group already exists in the target tenant. Then you can migrate the group mailbox email and calendar content.

That's a wrap on February 2026

Five updates across Migrate and Protect this month. Three that bring more control, consistency, and clarity to everyday governance work. Two that make Exchange migrations more complete and compliant.

The best way to understand what these updates mean for your environment is to see them firsthand. Book a demo and we'll show you what's relevant to your tenant. You'll leave with answers to your questions and a better understanding of how to use ShareGate to make your life easier.
